Robin Leach just called. He has an awesome idea
for a Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous revival.
The premise? Two NBA superstars (say, LeBron
James and Chris Paul) dine with a pair of billionaire titans of industry (say,
Warren Buffett and Bill Gates) in a private room at a posh Las Vegas
restaurant. Robin, of course, is on hand to cover the whole thing.
What's that? That already happened? Poor chap
won't be happy to hear that.
Indeed, LeBron and CP3 joined Buffett, the second-richest
man in America and head honcho at Berkshire Hathaway, and Gates, the richest
man in America and co-founder of Microsoft, for an exclusive dinner at Bartolotta
at the Wynn.
The star-studded meal came together during the
summer of 2008, when James, who was training with Paul and Team USA ahead of
the Beijing Olympics, personally invited his pecunious pals to see the squad
play.
It's tough to make out any of the particulars of
the conversation. However, Cleveland Cavaliers fans still feeling jilted by
"The Decision" can only wonder whether Buffett and Gates advised
LeBron—who was accompanied by business partner Maverick Carter and current
agent, Rich Paul—to take his talents to South Beach.
And might they have offered similar advice to
CP3, who forced his exit from the New Orleans Hornets three-and-a-half years
after this particular encounter?
